It is time to take back control of you life and critical to this is to get good nights sleep. Only after proper nights sleep does one feel refreshed and then in a position to tackle any problems that may come up.

Sleep is the natural state of bodily rest observed throughout the animal kingdom, in all mammals, birds, in many reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Sleep for humans in necessary for survival. It is part of the bodies natural which works on roughly a 24 hour basis and has the given name “Circadian Rhythm” a term coined by Franzsleepinggirl.jpg Hallberg and comes from the Latin “circa”, meaning “around” and “diem” or “dies”, translating as “day” meaning together literally “about a day”.

Circadian rhythms are important in determining the sleeping and feeding pattern of all humans, there are clear patterns of core body temperature, brain wave activity, hormone production, cell regeneration and other biological activities linked t this daily cycle.

There are many health problems associated with a disturbance in human circadian rhythm such as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and Delayed Sleeping Phase Syndrome (DSPS). Circadian rhythms also play a part in reticular activity state system, which is crucial for maintaining consciousness. A good example to show the effects of disruption to the human circadian rhythm is a condition that many travellers have suffered which is Jet Lag that leads to symptoms of fatigue, disorientation and insomnia.

In one drastic realization shift work particularly night shift work was in December 2007 listed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a “probable” cause of cancer.

Everyone at one time or another has trouble sleeping and we have explained here it is vital not only to a person survival but over general well being to get an adequate amount of sleep. Next up we will introduce Gamma amino butyric acid which is key component of Melatrol. Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter found in the nervous system throughout the animal kingdom.
